For most of us, it's back to school time. It's a time for new things like clothes, backpacks, papers, pencils, etc. It's also when our children are spending more time online working on school work and projects. Do you ever stop to think about the information we as adults have stored on these same computers? After all, we live in a digital world, I couldn't tell you the last time I used a paper check to pay a bill or place an order. What could happen if this information got into the wrong hands? From bank records, taxes, photos, and passwords - it's all out there. Easy pickings for those that would like to do us harm. So, it's a good time to think about protecting your computers valuable information with computer security you can depend on. Wrapped Up N U is delighted to be teaming up with Trend Micro to help you understand more about protecting your family from cyber activities.
We as parents often talk with our kids about stranger danger. But kids don't always understand there can be danger online in the unknown. I'm the first parent to admit my children can get what I call "click happy." What exactly is click happy? To me, it is when they just click on any and everything they see. They see a "free" game and click everything it says not even thinking of the consequences to the action. I highly recommend having a talk with your children. No, not "THE TALK", but a talk. Try to explain the dangers in ways they understand, pull up a chair and talk to them while they are on the internet. It's a great time to open up communications and discuss what they are doing. I would also suggest that you have your computer in a family room too. My 3 children are age 15, 14 and 10 and could possibly know more than I do about the internet. But I do insist on putting safe guards in check. For example, I DEMAND to know all their passwords and usernames and will check their accounts at any time without warning. Don't be scared to change the security settings and privacy settings on your child's devices. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
