Popping The Question? How You Can Take Matters Into Your Own Hands

March 21, 2019

Traditionally, when it comes to relationships of a man and a woman, a man would get down on one knee and ask the woman in his life to marry him. Today there are so many versions of a happy couple, that now you really don’t need to be so traditional and old school. Whether you are in a loving relationship with a man or a woman, why not take matters into your own hands? Sometimes our partners can drag their feet, and often they don’t realise that you have hit the next stage of your relationship. They may be content, you may already have kids together and a home, so what’s the point? But sometimes it is that commitment, that marriage and ceremony that signifies and sets in stone your life together.

So taking matters into your own hands could be on the cards, so what should you do to make the engagement happen? Here are some suggestions on how to bring the engagement to life and finally take that next step in your relationship.

Getting the engagement ring sorted
One of the first things that you need to think about is the engagement ring. Normally, if you were wanting to be proposed to, you would expect the other person to arrange this side of things, but taking matters into your own hands means that you can finally make those decisions and really choose something that you love. Browning brands like Tacori and using the internet as a great source of inspiration to figure out what it is you want. Plus you will know your size, so there will be no issue around whether or not the ring will fit. Another option is to do the proposing, and then together go out and choose the ring which can equitably give you a lovely memory to share together.

Choosing the right location
The next thing you will need to think about is where you will pop the question. This can actually be one of the harder decisions to make. You need to think about things such as what means something to you both, what might be romantic or certainly give the occasion a little something extra. Many people look to their past memories and experiences with one another to choose a great place. This could be a restaurant you had your first date in, a place you stayed where you declared your love for one another,or a romantic spot where you shared your first kiss. If you think hard enough, you are bound to find something that will work for you.

Keeping it a surprise
A tough part of this is keeping it a surprise. Some people just don’t have that natural poker face where they can keep up with appearances. Especially if you have a place to go and somewhere specific to be. The best advice would be to confide in someone that you trust so that you can speak to someone about it. They can be your person to bounce ideas off, and to share details, and they may even be able to help you bring the whole thing together. This person could also be lurking around to grab some pictures or video footage of the engagement, so that you have a lovely thing to look back on in years to come.

When are you going to do it?
Another issue people who want to propose to someone else face is knowing exactly when to do it, and you have a fair few options to consider. Some people think that there is more of an element of surprise if you propose on another occasion day such as Valentines Day, a birthday or Christmas. Perhaps even using your anniversary as the day to do it. Others want to use a completely different day, and perhaps make it an occasion in itself. The choice is yours, but make sure that all of your other plans and ideas fall in line with it.

What are you going to say?
Finally, the toughest thing at all, but yet, the one thing that should be the easiest, what exactly are you going to say? Aside from the usual question, which can feel overwhelming to ask anyway, are you going to say anything else? Perhaps using this time as a chance to really get all of your feelings out. Letting that other person know exactly how you feel and what you want from your life together. This is your moment, so take some time to make a few nights, or even prepare a whole speech if you wish.

Let’s hope this has given you the inspiration to help you take matters into your own hands when it comes to proposing.
