Some Fantastic Ways To Show Your Compassion

November 10, 2020

One of the best things we can all do for ourselves, ironically, is to show compassion to others. Although it might seem strange, the truth is that when you show a good deal of compassion to other people, you feel better about yourself. You are also more likely to appreciate other’s humanity, which is something that can really help you to enjoy your life, and which boosts your ability to be compassionate, thus creating a virtuous cycle. So what are some of the best ways to show your compassion to others? Let’s take a look.

Practice Active Listening

How often do we find ourselves in situations where we are not really listening to the other person in the conversation? We might be waiting for our own turn to talk, or simply daydreaming at times, and not really being fully engaged in the conversation itself. The trouble with this is that people can tell when it is happening - if you think back, you can probably remember times when the other person glazed over while you were talking. It’s not a very kind thing to do, and it’s certainly not compassionate, so consider instead trying to practice active listening. That simply means that you are actually listening and responding to the person as best as you can. It really improves relationships.

Build A Career Out Of Care

If you are really serious about trying to boost your compassion, one of the things you might want to consider is to build a career out of care in some way or another. There are so many types of career you might want to consider, but whichever you do, you are going to find that it helps to make you feel better about yourself and about the world in general. You might decide to take a degree program in occupational therapy, become a counsellor, or even turn to the world of medicine. Whatever it is, building a caring career is a great way to show compassion and love to the world.

Communicate Verbally & Non-Verbally

It’s important to remember that there are many different kinds of communication, and you need to make sure that you are making the most of all types if you want people to feel loved and respected. Above all, you need your non-verbal and verbal communication to line up as well as possible, so that people know you really mean it when you say those nice things. This might take a lot of work for some people, but it is absolutely worth it if it means the people around you will feel so much more appreciated, and more as though you are really engaging with them on a good level. This is a hugely powerful thing you can focus on if you want to boost your compassion with your loved ones.

As you can see, there are a range of ways you can approach this, but however you do it, make sure that you are working on it a little, every day.
